Growing up in Basel, Berfin decided to study there as well and graduated in molecular biology with a focus on developmental and cell biology. During her master’s at the Biozentrum she investigated the dynamic cell behaviours during blood vessel formation in zebrafish embryos in the lab of Prof. Markus Affolter.  She then decided to continue working with zebrafish, however this time delve deeper into the inner cellular mechanisms and explore the nuclear compaction during the PhD in the Vastenhouw lab. 

In her leisure time she mostly likes to be outside, hike, whenever possible, hang out with friends and family or read.
